Teamwork Term in Bradworthy!

Hello, Magical Parents! What a wonderful beginning to our Terrific Teamwork term here in Bradworthy today! Our tiny dancers have embarked on a journey filled with joy, learning and magical experiences. This term is all about developing essential skills through the art of dance and we couldn’t be more excited to share our adventures with you.

Our sessions are designed to foster both gross and fine motor skills. From high-energy jumps to delicate finger movements, our tiny dancers are exploring a wide range of dance styles that not only enhance their physical development but also introduce them to early mathematical concepts. Counting steps, beats and rhythms is a fun and engaging way to develop those early mathematical skills and our dancers are already showing great progress!

Today’s highlight was an obstacle course inspired by the enchanting story “The Cat with the Crooked Tail” by @once_uponadance. This story beautifully illustrates the importance of being unique, recognising and embracing differences and fostering a growth mindset. As our dancers navigated the obstacle course, they not only practised their physical skills but also absorbed valuable life lessons about self-acceptance and perseverance.

We’re focusing on fundamental social skills and the power of teamwork throughout our community and nursery classes this week. Here’s why this focus is so important:

1. Building Social Skills:
   Through group activities and partner dances, children learn to communicate, cooperate and build relationships. These interactions are crucial for their social development and help them understand the value of working together.
2. Enhancing Confidence:
   Participating in group activities and performances helps boost children’s confidence. They learn to trust their abilities and feel proud of their achievements, both individually and as part of a team.
3. Fostering a Growth Mindset:
   Stories like “The Cat with the Crooked Tail” inspire children to embrace challenges and learn from their experiences. By celebrating each other’s uniqueness and supporting one another, they develop a positive, growth-oriented mindset.

Activity to Try at Home: The Crooked Tail Adventure Dance
Keep the magic going at home with this fun and simple activity that ties into our Terrific Teamwork term theme!

Materials Needed:

Space to move around
A few household items to create a simple obstacle course (pillows, chairs and a blanket will do)

Instructions:

1. Set the Scene: Read “The Cat with the Crooked Tail” together or summarise the story, focusing on the themes of uniqueness and perseverance.
   
2. Create the Course: Use pillows, chairs and a blanket to create a mini obstacle course in your living room or garden. Make sure it’s safe and easy to navigate.
   
3. Dance Through the Course: Encourage your child to dance through the obstacle course. They can pretend to be the cat with the crooked tail, gracefully moving around obstacles, crawling under chairs and hopping over pillows.
   
4. Add a Counting Challenge: As they move, ask them to count their steps or the number of obstacles they pass. This integrates mathematical skills with physical activity.
   
5. Celebrate Uniqueness: After completing the course, discuss what makes each of us unique and how these differences are our strengths. Celebrate their efforts and encourage them to keep trying, just like the cat in the story.
